My After series explores the beauty of surfaces altered by time, weather, and experience. These wall-mounted ceramic forms have irregular contours and layered glazes that suggest the effects of aging and erosion. Their worn, weathered surfaces give each piece a distinct character and a sense of having endured.
Small, irregular openings interrupt the surfaces, inviting the viewer to look inward and discover glimpses of the glazed interior. These openings create subtle relationships between surface, depth, light, and shadow.
Displayed in arrangements, the individual forms become part of a larger composition, where repetition, variation, and the spaces between pieces contribute to the whole. The After series considers transformation and endurance, finding beauty in imperfection and the marks that time leaves behind.
This Suite 01 is made up of five component pieces, each approximately 4.5 inches x 3.5 x1. Each component is individually formed by hand in my studio, made of mid-fire stoneware with glaze, and terra sigillata with flux and salt washes. Each component has a hole in the back for easy hanging, and comes with a hanging template for accurate placement. This grouping as shown measures approximately 18 inches high x 10 wide.
