Held Passage | Hand-Built Ceramic Sculpture with Aperture
Held Passage continues my Throughspace series, exploring the relationship between form and the openings that move through it. Each sculpture is shaped by a central void that invites light, air, and shifting perspective to become part of the piece itself.
Hand-built with soft contours, the form balances solidity with openness. The narrow aperture creates a subtle interior passage, encouraging the viewer to look through the piece as much as at it. A quiet palette of warm white and iron-toned surfaces suggests weathered stone or earth, allowing natural variations in glaze and texture to emerge.
Part of my ongoing sculptural Throughspace series, these pieces explore the relationship between solid form and moving space. Each sculpture contains a passage that extends through the body of the piece, allowing light, air, breath, and gaze to pass through. The sculpture holds its shape, and space is given a place to move within and beyond.
Dimensions: 10.5 inches high x 7.5 wide x 5.75 deep; base is 3 × 2.5 inches.
Material: Handbuilt stoneware with matte white glaze
