Listening Vestige | Hand-Built Ceramic Sculpture with Sculptural Slit
Listening Vestige reflects the quiet dialogue between form and emptiness. Hand-built with a soft, rounded silhouette, the piece is shaped around a slender, elongated opening that acts as both a threshold and a pause—a place where light gathers and a sense of listening presence emerges through what is not there.
Shifting gently between pale greens, warm ochres, and softened whites, the surface echos the weathered textures of time-worn stone or fading memory. Subtle variations in the glaze create a sense of depth and stillness, inviting a pause for looking. The footed bottom lifts the vessel off the surface and helps define the form.
Part of my ongoing sculptural Absence and Presence series, these pieces invite stillness and contemplation, asking the viewer to consider the space within as integral to the form itself. These vessels are shaped as much by what is missing as by what remains. Each form holds space — for breath, for memory, for what cannot be seen. The voids are intentional: an expression of the unseen forces that shape us.
Dimensions: 9 inches high x 6 wide x 4.5 deep; base is 2.5 × 1.5 inches.
Material: Handbuilt stoneware with pale green, ochre and crystalline white glaze
